Nexus S 4G Software Update Coming July 11
The Nexus S 4G is set to recieve an update on July 11th, this will bring your software up to version GRJ90, and we expect also Android 2.3.5. Don’t be expecting to feast on any ice cream sandwiches just yet, but some much needed fixes are coming. Enhancements include:
- Enables the NFC Secure Element
- 4G Settings Widget
- TTY Support
- NI Push Support
- Improved WiFi Connectivity, Speakerphone audio quality, 4G throughput and signal acquisition.
- Tuned signal strength indicators.
The update will be coming to users over a four day period starting July 11th. Your device will recognize there is an update and notify you to take action. Happy updating!
The author of this post is 100% wrong. This is indeed a very major update. It will give the Nexus S 4G phone a massive performance boost. It will also fix every single major bug listed in the Sprint community forums. I should note, however, in areas where Sprint’s EVO 4G phone can’t get a 4G WiMAX signal the Nexus S 4G in its current state has no trouble at all.
I meant that it’s not a new version of Android. But I can see how it came off. Edited.

Really? I’ve not actually had that been the case for me. I have a NS 4G and have had pretty terrible connectivity all around but most notable amongst 4G and Wifi stuff. The gf has a EVO and I run side-by-side comparisons that show NS 4G with less connection signal + slower speeds.

What is your source for the fix?

Oh I do trust there will be an update… I was just curious where Mr. Rose got his info that the author of this post is wrong and that this will be a massive performance boost… not sure I trust that rumor. Thanks for the reply!

I’ve had my Nexus S 4G side by side with an EVO 4G. In the notification bar the EVO 4G had the 4G with the exclamation point on the left side which indicates it’s scanning for a 4G signal but has not acquired one. My Nexus S 4G on the other hand had a 4G indicator with all bars lit up green. Using the Easyspeak test I get download speeds of at least 5mbps and upload speeds between 1.5mbps and 2mbps. On my home wifi I get download speeds of 17mbps with the Easyspeak test using my Nexus S 4G. I’ve not tested the EVO 4G download speeds on wifi, but it doesn’t seem to have any trouble getting a solid connection to wifi networks.

Very confident, however the document gives a four-day breakdown: 5%, 25%, 25% and 100%, it should most likely hit big tomorrow. Rest assured the update is set to happen. If we get hold of it sooner, we’ll post it here.
Can’t wait.. been having problems where it’s dropping my wifi connection at the house.. have to actually delete connection and reconnect.
