[Rumor] Delayed Nexus S 4G Update Happening on July 18th

Posted In News - By Mark Hearn On Thursday, July 14th, 2011 10:02am PDT With 20 Comments
After a Nexus S 4G update dated for July 11th missed the bus. We were all left wondering what happened? We later found out that the update was set to happen, but was postponed for reasons unknown. Some blamed Google, some blamed Sprint, but everybody was feeling blue about missing the update. After a bit of digging we received word from a couple of sources that the update is on the agenda for next week. One chap even gave us a date of July 18th. Now considering how things didn’t go down last time, we definitely won’t hold our breath on this. However a one week delay to iron out a few wrinkles doesn’t sound impossible. We don’t know about you, but we’ll be checking and refreshing for an update starting Monday morning.

Highly opinionated and somewhat eccentric he shares his ramblings about his network of choice here at SprintFeed.

Thanks for keeping us posted. Hope this update corrects this terrible low sound for the speaker and ringers.

Is it still going to be 5 percent day 1, 25 percent day 2, 25, percent day 3 and 100 percent day 4?

I got this in an email this morning from Dan@sprint.com

“I have contacted our Technical Support Department in regards to the Nexus software update. I was advised that the software update was released and if you are experiencing any issues that you would want to take the Nexus S to the service center so that it can be updated.” -office of Dan@Sprint.com

Yet another miscommunication between Sprint and Google. Google was about to release the update to Nexus S 4G phones on July 11. When they heard about Sprint’s network outage they decided to wait. Apparently Google didn’t inform Sprint of their reason for delaying the update. Rest assured, the update has NOT been released. Sprint has no say as to when Google pushes out updates for the Nexus S 4G. Google does it whenever they want to without Sprint’s approval. The Nexus S 4G is not a Sprint phone. It is a Google phone built by Samsung that happens to be locked to Sprint. There is a difference.

  13. Mark Hearn says:

So far nothing, this update situation is becoming a mess. We might just stay away from this one and post Twitter updates at the most until it officially hits.

  14. christopher blanco says:

last page view ever here. Both your rumored updates made me very excited only to realize your “sources” are less than accurate. Only interested in tech news that is accurate. Adios, sprintfeed

  15. Mark Hearn says:

I hope you reconsider and please understand that the update was originally set to happen on the 11th, this has been confirmed by multiple sites, but if Google or Sprint decide to cancel it for their own reasons we have no control over that. As far as the mention of a possible update on the 18th, that was listed as a rumor and we warned that it might not happen. In regards to sources, everything else we’ve ever covered has pretty much happened spot on. Most recently the price and street date for the Motorola Titanium as well as the Galaxy Tab’s Gingerbread update.

We’d hate to lose you as a reader, because we very much appreciate your support. However we ask that you please be reasonable and understanding about things. In the end the choice is yours, but thank you for visiting the site and we hope to see you return.

I do believe that his frustration with this phone is driving his anger toward this site. I also feel defeated, but I still wait for a positive sign from you. It isn’t your fault it isn’t here right now. We appreciate your hard work I’m trying to provide the most accurate info to your best knowledge. You clearly labeled it a rumor, but we all hoped we would be saved. Don’t take his comment personally.

  17. Jondoughboi says:

I heard at&t is actually coming out with a nexus s this week, so most likely the update will not happen till it comes out.. I guess that way they all get the update at the same time..

  18. Storm2180 says:

I also heard the company that created the wimax are having problems which sprint has a major partnership with the company are working on switching to LTE with a company called lightsquared. As far as I know, no mention on when this is supposed to happen but I know that by theed timed sprint gets all of this situated, sprint is going to be a hard company to compete against. Especially when data service is unlimited and the other carriers are not, so I would say be patient nothings perfect and the update is coming and I think its going to be version GRJ90 2.3.5…
