Samsung GSII Promo Supports Sept 9th Release [UPDATE]

Posted In News - By Mark Hearn On Wednesday, August 24th, 2011 8:45am PST With 11 Comments

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it ain’t an elephant! Last week  our beloved Super Spies served up the goods, by outing the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S II’s release date, but it didn’t end there. We also got word that Sprint would be the first U.S. carrier to get hold of Samsung’s superphone. Just yesterday Samsung released a promotional video teasing the GSII’s stateside release and a few of our eagle-eyed readers spotted something pretty neat. At the end of the video around the 47 seconds mark, the video shows what clearly is a different phone, which shows a date of 9/9 and a location of Kansas City. We’re not certain what version of the GSII is being displayed, but most of you loyal Sprintsters already know, September 9th is the date we outed and Kansas is Sprint’s home turf. We really don’t believe in coincidences, but everything should be revealed on the 29th at Samsung’s press event. For those of you who may have missed it, you can check out the promo video below.

UPDATE: The plot just got thicker! Not too sure how we overlooked this, but our hawk-eyed reader Oversteer325 pointed out that the phone also has Sprint’s Visual Voicemail icon. Don’t believe us? Take a look the at Motorola PHOTON 4G, it’s there. This pretty much confirms this is Sprint’s version of the GSII.

Thanks to everyone who pointed this out!

so here is the dilemma. Go figure Sprint to be the carrier to offer so many hot phones all at once. Do I pop for the Photon or wait it out for the GSII or an even longer wait for the rumored iphone. oh the pain of it all.

Kansas City and Kansas aren’t the same thing, though. Kansas City is in Missouri.

Yes, you’re absolutely right. However there is a Kansas City, Kansas. Sprint is in Overland Park Kansas, not Missouri. The Sprint Center is in Kansas City MO though. The weather widget only says “Kansas City,” but either way it points to Sprint.

go to google maps and look at where kansas city, mo and overland park, ks are… or check wikipedia!

Not certain if that was directed towards us, but you do realize there is a Kansas City, Kansas and the Sprint Center Arena is located in Kansas City MO. No matter how you cut it, they both point to Sprint. In addition Sprint’s Visual Voicemail icon is on the phone as well. Forgive me if your comment was meant for someone else.
