Who Will Get Ice Cream Sandwich First? EVO 3D vs PHOTON 4G

Posted In Polls - By Mark Hearn On Wednesday, August 10th, 2011 10:17am PDT With 17 Comments

If Sprint were a mountain, both HTC’s EVO 3D and Motorola’s PHOTON 4G would be boxing on top of it. You may prefer one over the other for various reasons, but there’s no doubt that these two are the Now Network’s top dogs. Things may be neck and neck at the moment, but round two is arguably the biggest opportunity for bragging rights. As cutting edge as theses two devices are, their operating system is on borrowed time. Android’s hot baked Gingerbread is about to be playing play second fiddle to a refreshingly cool serving of Ice Cream Sandwich. The big question is, which one of these sexy beasts will see the update first? We’d love to hear your point of view, so don’t be shy, feel free to vote and leave a comment.

I can’t see why they both wouldn’t get the update.

  2. Ben says:

HTC has a reputation for getting updates out quicker, but I hope they both get it in a timely fashion, I was on Moment before my 3vo, so I know what it feels like to be left out in the cold.

Motorola is very slow with updates. Ask any Cliq user.

Nexus S will get it first for sure if the hardware can handle it. That’s the point of the Google phone is that it gets the updated software first because of the lack of carrier or manufacturer installed bloatware. HTC sense 3.0 is going to take a long time to integrate and Motorola is using a thinned down version of Moto Blur so I’m guessing that Moto will be first to come out with the update of those two phones. I also think that 3 other phones will launch with Ice Cream Sandwich and these 2 will be playing catch up. Most will head to XDA and get beta’s of the software before it’s available on anything else and will be old news by the time it’s official…

    Great comment!

  9. Motorola will be the first to get it now that Google just brought them for $12.5bil. Plus HTC always take ages to bring Sense Up-to-Date, and while the major carriers and OEMs have agreed to get things out on a timely manner my bet is seeing as the Photon 4G has been called “Sprint’s best” and “Sprint’s new flagship” I have to say it’ll see ICS first….and why shouldn’t it-I had the EVO 3D and Photon 4G is a killer of the phone (well the screen could be better)

  10. I predict that you’ll have to buy the new “Nexus Prime” to get Android 4 first.

I have a Photon and Moto has released a ton of updates for it and has only been out a couple months. I’d say the Nexus Prime will be first with other phones coming after.

  12. Adam Stidham says:

In doing so, you demonstrated a fundamental lack of understanding of mobile technology. The “3D” is a tiny perk compared to the other hardware differences between the OG EVO and the 3D version.

Thank you, I read that comment and was about to tell him/her the same thing.

  14. Scorekeepr21000 says:

I have the Evo 3D so I am hoping that it gets it first. This should be a relatively quick update to do seeing as a lot of the Sense 3.0 features are now integrated into ICS.

    Duh

Actually I think it was good move, now he can save the upgrade….
