HTC Confirms That Carrier IQ is Going Bye-Bye in Future Updates, Other OEMs Soon to Follow

A recent EVO 3D update is the first step of many in HTC’s quest to remove Carrier IQ from their existing Sprint product lineup. After chatting with an unnamed HTC spokesperson, The Verge has received the following statement:

HTC can confirm that we’re working with Sprint to provide maintenance releases that will remove Carrier IQ and provide security enhancements and bug fixes beginning in January.

This also lines up with recent claims of Sprint ordering OEMs to remove the now shunned software from all devices currently on the Now Network’s roster. It still remains uncertain if Sprint will use other methods to obtain the network performance data that Carrier IQ was initially being used for prior to the software’s negative mainstream attention. But as it stands, Carrier IQ’s days on Sprint devices appear to be numbered.

Amazing what one little video can do now isn’t it? It never really bothered me anyway, remember the whole gps law enforcement portal fiasco? It was like family locator only you didn’t need permission from the user and could pull pretty much any phone. I would have to imagine Sprint has some pretty powerful tools if they wanna know whats going on within there network. All the people that worry about privacy you might as well get rid of everything you have. You can’t let stuff like that bother you big brother will always be watching. Good news none the less, I don’t have a problem submitting crash reports, I don’t want my phone to run like crap.
