[Rumor] Nokia Lumia 900 Heading to Other Carriers

Posted In News - By Mark Hearn On Monday, January 16th, 2012 6:46pm PDT With 8 Comments

The impressive Nokia Lumia 900 made its official debut last week at CES and was billed as an AT&T exclusive. However, if a rumor from Paul Thurrott of WinSuperSite pans out, the Nokia-made powerhouse could find itself available on other mobile carriers (possibly Sprint) after AT&T’s time sensitive exclusivity run out. This definitely goes against the recent wave of post-CES rumors of Sprint not being too fond of Microsoft’s thriving mobile platform.

The rumor states that after a 45 day hold, Nokia would be free to begin negotiating with other wireless carriers to bring a version of the Lumia 900 to their networks. Thurrott’s report stresses that this information comes from “a source at a rival wireless carrier” and no one close to Microsoft. In addition to additional carriers, the new non-AT&T versions of the Nokia Lumia 900 are said to carry an improved 12-megapixel camera. For those of you unfamiliar with the Lumia 900′s offerings, take a glance at its specifications listed below.

  • 4.3 AMOLED display
  • 1.4GHz processor
  • 16GB internal memory
  • 512MB of RAM
  • 8-megapixel primary rear camer with dual LED flash
  • 1-megapixel front facing camera
  • 3G/4G LTE network connectivity

That other guy from Sprint said they won’t be getting any Windows Phone 7 devices this year.

No, he gave some BS song and dance about MSFT needing to build ‘enthusiasm’ for Windows Phone before Sprint would carry the devices.

Of course, if Sprint would take the time to properly educate their store people about the platform, that could go a long way towards helping to build ‘enthusiasm.’ More often than not the store people will push people to the iPhone or the latest Android without a mention of Windows Phone.

btw, while I am an Android user, I would definitely consider WP as my next device if Sprint expanded their offerings.

I’m leaving Sprint because of the lack of WP7 support. They want MS to build enthusiasim but haven’t done anything themselves. When I go into stores and see big T-Mobile adds for WP7 devices and AT&T has them visible from the road when I drive by but Sprint is still an Android clearing house what do you expect?
I’ve been a Sprint customer for a LONG time and will pay more to be on another carrier, but, they have no interest in the phones that I want so, it’s time to go. If they get a Lumia 900 late this year, great, but what’s going to be on the horizon for the other guys by that time? I’ve been unhappy with them for a while but it’s finally time to just go. As soon as AT&T gets the Titan II, my time is done.

leaving sprint on April 8 after 5 years… hello at&t and nokia lumia 900.
hopefully it’s really releasing on 4/8.

Sprint should take a better look @the windows line up instead of ruling it out completely. I don’t care much for the interface & no expandable memory or flash supporr has always been a deal breaker for me but they are virtually a different version of the iPhone & w/more advertising, they’d take off just like the iphone line did.
