[Rumor] Sprint’s Next EVO Codenamed HTC Jewel

With Mobile World Congress running wild like Hulkamania in the 80s, many OEM’s have taken the stage and showcased their next-gen equipment and the carriers they’re promised to. HTC was one of the first to do so and though the competition has received its fair share of love, it appears that this longtime partner had zero to say about their plans for the Now Network. However, everything may not be as it seems.
A “trusted source” has informed our friends over at PocketNow that HTC is working on a Sprint-specific handset from their recently announced One Series, which is currently carrying the codename Jewel. This mystery device is said to sport an HD display similar to the 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 Super LCD 2 featured on HTC’s One X. It is also being said that this device will be one of Sprint’s “premiere” LTE handsets (probably HTC’s first with Sprint), which leads us to believe that this will likely be the next device in their highly successful EVO product line.
As far as a release is concerned, CTIA appears to be an ideal setting for Sprint to announce such a device. Looking back at their track record, this event has historically served as a launchpad for Sprint’s next big thing. A new EVO announcement immediately followed by an LTE deployment would definitely give Sprint customers something to smile about. Hopefully, this lackluster MWC showing is due to plans for a grand showing at CTIA in New Orleans.

I kinda figured the next EVO would take after the One X.
And also….CTIA is in New Orleans?!?! That is awfully close! I may have to make a road trip..
when is cita?
It’s in May in New Orleans.
This shall be mine. I have an upgrade burning a hole in my pocket. I have been holding out for something LTE. I can’t find it in me to burn an upgrade on something that doesn’t have LTE. I already own 2 Wimax phones even though I don’t have Wimax available where I live.
Isn’t May pushing it for Sprint to announce a June phone release date, which is when the EVO line typically launches?
All I want is the iconic kickstand back.
Has sprint decided the spectrum they are going to use for 4G? If they release specs their vendor choice and spectrum use will be disclosed. I would think since they are late in the game they are going to need a lot of peer sharing agreements with local exchange carriers and telcos. You can’t be making those deals with all your chips on the table. Letting all the people who you are making deals with know that you might get 2 billion and your paying old debts with no problems is going to get POs moving. I could be wrong…
If they do get 2 billion its going to be more of a publicity stunt to show people how popular the brand really is…. How many CEOs you know on tv? Sprint is kinda like the DirecTV of the wireless industry.
They are using the crappy 1900mhz PCS G block band in a 5×5 channel. Of course the 800mhz is the one that call my attention, but they won’t use it for LTE until 2013. They have waited too long to kick out the IDEN customers of that network.
i was trying to hold out on my Sprint OneClick slider phone (Sammy’s Exclaim) but my mom foced me to upgrade but i have about 5 hundo saved to get the Evo LTE with Sense 4.0 or samsung Epic Touch LTE(GS3 (Whatever its called)(hope its short and to the point)
sprint! GET FLAGSHIP PHONES!!!!!!! THE ONEX FROM HTC IS AMAZING (get them to make a removable and/or a larger battery
some of the LG phones that came out are amazing too!! with their UI
hav on my MoPho running Cynogenmod9 ICS!!!!
same and ive been dropping comments telling them to pick up the OneX
The One X looks awesome. I could also go with the Samsung Note if it comes with LTE.
Im all for waiting until i here about an evo 2 but im really feeling underwhelmed by there offerings in Spain. The htc one x, though powerful, lacks the sophistication and sex appeal that other oems are offering right now or will be offering. Ive been devoted to htc and I even pretended that the samsung galaxy s2 was just bland but in actuality I love the phone. Im starting to think my next phone will be a samsung. (s3) They are beauties and htc’s curved designs remind me of the old clunker american car designs when Japanese where starting to go for sleek edged out designs.. htc is flopping with design.
