Sprint Terminating LightSquared Deal Tomorrow

Posted In News - By Mark Hearn On Thursday, March 15th, 2012 6:05pm PDT With 1 Comment

A report from the Wall Street Journal is claiming that Sprint is ready to pull the plug on their 15-year planned partnership with LightSquared. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise as Sprint had already granted the wireless wholesaler additional time to sort things out with the FCC. With this partnership coming to an early end, the Now Network will have to pay back around $65 million in prepayments to LightSquared.

Though this setback won’t derail Sprint’s LTE plans, it could easily cause them to go back to the drawing board. As Sprint continues to build their own LTE setup, we’ll eventually find out how important spectrum sharing truly was for their planned expansion. However, all is not lost, as Sprint will be working with Clearwire to deploy a TD-LTE network in the not so distant future.

Instead of going to the drawing board just but the rest of Clearwire and have access to over 200 MHz of spectrum in the top markets! Sprint would have the best LTE network in America if they only half of the spectrum!
